A new vitamin has emerged, vitamin A5
This is a type of plant-based vitamin A with global importance for mental health and healthy brain and nerve function.
It is mainly contained in spinach, kale, sweet potato, broccoli, tomato. With an estimated requirement of 1.1 mg per day, the best sources already cover the requirements with 100g as shown above.
A comparison of the nutritional data of the European countries shows that the Central Mediterranean countries are well covered, while Germany and the countries to the north of it tend to fall short.
Here's the study:
Bohn T, Despotovic M, Vahid F, Rühl R. Estimated Dietary Intakes of Vitamin A5. Nutrients. 2024;16(23):4004. doi: 10.3390/nu16234004. Link
“About two thirds of the population had intakes below the recommended value of 1.1 mg/day.”
We are not yet aware of any food supplement for this new vitamin function. There is therefore only a nutritional recommendation.
tl;dr: Eat more spinach, carrots, lettuce and sweet potatoes - for your brain.
