Geranylgeraniol (GG for short, pronounced “Chi Chi”) is a substance that is important for all cells and that our body can produce itself. Unfortunately, however, it becomes less and less effective as we get older. In addition, some drugs block this production (namely cholesterol-lowering and osteoporosis drugs).
We assume that GG will become even more important in the coming years to combat the signs of ageing and the side effects of cholesterol-lowering drugs and bisphosphonates.
What is GG necessary for?
1. energy production in the mitochondria
Every cell contains mitochondria, which provide the energy for all life processes. For every thought, every heartbeat and every movement. To do this, the mitochondria need CoQ10 (ubiquinol). CoQ10 comes from GG. CoQ10 can be eaten directly, but (according to studies) the supply from GG works better. If the body can no longer produce it sufficiently itself due to age (or cholesterol-lowering drugs).
2. muscle building
Our muscles are constantly being built and rebuilt. To build muscle protein, the body needs protein - and GG. If GG is missing, the muscles can no longer be built up properly. This explains muscle weakness (sarcopenia) in old age and the muscular complaints caused by cholesterol-lowering drugs.
3. sex hormones
In old age, the level of sex hormones (steroid hormones) drops significantly. This has health consequences. One factor in the genesis of steroid hormones is GG. A study has shown that in men with low testosterone levels, GG was able to increase these levels again.
4. vitamin K2
The active form of vitamin K2 in the body is called menaquinone-4 (MK4). Our cells produce it from plant-based vitamin K1 - with the help of GG (geranylgeraniol). We expect that the supply of vitamin K2 can be improved with GG. Vitamin K2 is needed in the body to store calcium in the bones, to remove calcium from arteriosclerosis, for cell growth, to inhibit inflammation and to support nerve function.

GG is contained in some foods, for example 2 mg per 100g in olive oil. This is not enough to reach the 150mg per day determined by studies. However, there is one plant in particular that has a lot of it, namely annatto (Bixa orellana).
We are pleased to be able to offer a plant extract from Bixa orellana with 150 mg GG per 16 drops. GG+T3 orellana
