This is the bust of Francisco de Orellana in Trujillo/Peru. He was a Spanish conquistador who travelled down the Amazon for the first time in 1541.

He descended from Quito (now in Ecuador) in the Andes to the Amazon lowlands, where he built two ships (with the help of natives) with which he travelled the entire length of the Amazon and finally reached the nearest Spanish settlement on Trinidad. That is about 400 km on land, 6800 km on the Amazonas and 1500 km at sea (250/4200/930 miles). On the journey, he encountered natives whom he described as "Amazons" and described civilisations that have only now been identified using modern LIDAR technology. And he described a plant that is named after him: Bixa orellana.

This jungle plant is even cultivated by the Indians there. Although they do not otherwise practise agriculture, they always keep a supply of it in their huts. They use it as a medicine and for body painting. Only today do we understand the medicinal effects of Bixa orellana. It contains large amounts of tocotrienol vitamin E and geranylgeraniol.

Almost all Tricutis products contain tocotrienols, mostly from Bixa orellana. This is actually indigenous jungle medicine, which is now confirmed by modern research.

Our latest product, GG+T3 ORELLANA contains the combined extractions from Bixa orellana: Geranylgeraniol (GG) and Tocotrienol.

GG+T3 ORELLANA

We have named the product ORELLANA in honour of the plant.

We think the story of Francisco de Orellana is also worth telling.
